Workplace Stress: Is it Driving You to Bad Snacking Habits?
Posted on October 29, 2007
Admit it -- you know it's bad to eat junk food during the day, but sometimes the stress just throws you off and you become oblivious to the fact that you're inhaling a bag of chips or carton of fries.
You are not alone. In a recent survey of more than 2,000 full-time workers -- more than 75 percent said they scarf down unhealthy snacks at least once a week; more than 1/4 of those surveyed said they snack on bad foods three or more times a week.
What's the price? If you inhale too fast = heart burn. Undoubtedly, an hour later, you feel lethargic. And indulge too often-you're bound to pack on the pounds.
Careerbuilder.com conducted another survey of more than 5,600 American workers, and 28 percent said they've gained more than ten pounds at their current jobs. Thirteen percent admit to eating lunch out of the vending machines, at least once during the work week.
Next time you're under the gun at work and looking for food -- don't let the stress lead you astray. Take three deep breaths and repeat the words "I need to find something nutritious." Think twice about noshing on bad foods, and packing unwanted calories into your day.
