It's Fat Week

Posted on November 21, 2007 | 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

My colleague brought in a dozen donuts for our 8:30 am daily meeting. And as we all sat there pondering the choices, she proclaimed that it was "fat week." Just go for it.

How much food will you eat this holiday week? It seems to be the slipperly slope...first Halloween, then "fat week," and when we return from all the Thanksgiving goodies, the holiday season is in full force.

Is there anywhere you can cut back the calories and stop yourself from over-indulging?

Calorie Count at Your Favorite Lunch Spot?

60 minutes ran a segment (Fast Food For Thought) on fast food chains required to list the calorie count of the food they serve on their menu boards. What a concept. It might make you think twice about what you are ordering. Or open your eyes to the fact that your favorite food item might be higher than you thought in terms of calories.

The New York City health commissioner -- the same official who led the smoking ban and trans fats ban in restaurants in the city -- is working on a regulation to require the restaurants who already offer nutritional information about their menu choices online, to post that information clearly when and where consumers order the meal. California Governor Schwarzenegger already vetoed a similar bill in his state.

Your best bet -- check out the calorie, fat and nutritional content BEFORE you walk out for lunch or a snack. Here are some direct links to nutritional guides for your favoriate fast food restaurants:

Burger King
Cosi
McDonald's
Pizza Hut
Subway
Starbucks
Wendy's

Halloween is devilish

I was bad last week, really bad. It all started with caving in on Halloween morning. Two colleagues brought in a couple dozen donuts. This time, I didn't resist, it was Halloween after all. I chose the glazed chocolate from Dunkin' Donuts. It brought me back to my childhood and sleeping over my friend's house. Her dad would always venture out Saturday morning for good ole' DD.

My mid-morning snack was a Kit Kat snagged from a colleague's "Trick or Treat" bowl. By noon, I was irritated and in a bad mood. Not to mention, extremely hungry...famished. Ah, the joys of the sugar rush, and crash. Of course, that day took the energy out of me and I didn't eat very well the rest of the week.

Thank god it's Monday! Time to start fresh.
