Headed to the obligatory office happy hour where you mindlessly guzzle a few drinks? Keep the calorie count in mind:

  • One serving (5 oz.) of cabernet sauvignon is 123 calories, yet the usual wine glass holds 2X the servings.
  • 12 ounces of regular beer is 123 calories.
  • One cosmopolitan is about 100 calories; a mojito, 110 calories.

And know the calorie and fat content of your favorite happy hour snacks:

  • 5 BBQ chicken wings are 472 calories and 31 grams of fat (33 grams of protein.)
  • A handful of nachos with the works is approximately 569 calories and 31 grams of fat (20 grams of protein.)
  • A small order of mozzarella sticks is approximately 425 calories and 22 grams of fat (18 grams of protein).

Search www.nutritiondata.com for the calorie and fat content of your favorite foods.

Here are some tips to keep your happy hour calories in line:

  • Start out with a tall glass of water with lemon for your first beverage; sip it slowly.
  • Chase your alcoholic beverages with another glass of water.
  • Swap a glass of wine for a wine spritzer--half the vino matched with a splash of seltzer.
  • Create your own non-alcoholic treat, such as Perrier and a splash of pomegranate juice.
